UNRA suspends Masindi ferry services

Uganda National Roads Authority (Unra) has temporarily suspended the operations Masindi port ferry for routine maintenance.

The ferry connects Kiryandongo and Apac districts through Masindi port and Kungu route across river Nile. Mark Ssali, the Unra communications officer says the ferry services have been suspended until November 15, 2018 to allow the engineers to service it.

Unra has now diverted traffic to Masindi port junction through Karuma bridge and Nakasongola junction through Lake Kyoga to Amolatar district for those travelling to northern Uganda.

Arnold Otim, a taxi operator plies the Lira-Apac route via Masindi port ferry to Kampala is worried the suspension will affect his business.

According to Otim, he prefers using Masindi port ferry while taking passengers to Kampala since it is shorter compared to the Lira-Kamdini route through Karuma bridge.
