The Mityana municipality MP Francis Zaake has been charged with treason and and unlawful escape from police custody. Zaake is accused of escaping from legal custody at Gulu hospital. He was later dumped at Lubaga hospital by people believed to be army officers.

Now he has been released on police bond for at least a month to enable him travel to abroad for further treatment. Zaake was last week along Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi blocked from leaving the country and subsequently arrested at Entebbe airport.

The duo was detained at Kiruddu hospital and placed under the guard of Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI). Kyagulanyi was later cleared by the medical board and police to travel to the US for treatment but Zaake wasn't cleared to travel.

Zaake and Kyagulanyi were among the 33 suspects arrested in Arua on allegations of stoning President Yoweri Museveni's convoy on August 13.

The suspects were allegedly tortured during arrest and whilst in detention with Kyagulanyi and Zaake needing further treatment abroad. The suspects now known as Arua33, except for Zaake were charged with treason and are out on bail.
