Three people have been killed and 22 others critically injured in a road accident at Kyankonwa in Nakasongola district along the Kampala-Gulu highway.
The accident which occurred on Thursday at around 1:00 pm involved a bus registration number UBE 379Q belonging to Zawadi Bus Services which was heading to Kampala and a trailer, registration number UAQ 742L/UAQ 130L heading to Gulu.
An eyewitness, Samuel Musoke says that the bus rammed into the incoming trailer carrying crates of beer as it was trying to overtake another truck before they all overturned. Musoke says that three people died on the spot and scores sustained multiple injuries.
Isah Ssemwogerere the Savannah regional police spokesperson says traffic policemen from Nakasongola police station rushed to the scene and transferred the survivors to Nakasongola health centre IV for treatment.
This is the third accident within a period of two weeks in Nakasongola and Luwero along the same Kampala-Gulu highway, claiming at least nine lives.
Earlier on Wednesday, another three people died while four others were critically injured when a trailer rammed into a taxi in Luwero district. The accident occurred at Kakinzi village in Luwero district along the Kampala-Gulu highway.
It involved a Kampala-bound trailer registration number T141 DCR/T781 DJH and a taxi registration number UAY-766V which was heading to Nakasongola.
Last week, three people died and seven others were critically injured when a speeding taxi knocked a motorcycle and overturned in Luwero town.
The accident, which involved a taxi registration number UBJ 164M and a motorcycle registration number UEG 809E occurred opposite Luwero Boys primary school in Luwero town council. In all these accidents, police have blamed them on reckless driving.
