The NBS TV protocol officer has been rushed to hospital in critical condition after getting involved in an accident that killed one person and injured 3 others along the Masaka-Mbarara highway.
The accident occurred this morning at 2.00 am at Kyazanga trading centre in Lwengo district when the driver of the saloon car registration number, UBG 169S lost control of the vehicle and knocked an electric pole along the roadside, killing one person on spot and injuring four others.
The injured people who are hospitalized in Kitovu hospital are Pablo Bashir of NBS who is in critical condition, Hannah Nakito a resident of Nakulabye and Nagayi Jawuhara also of Nakulabye.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver was trying to save a motorcyclist who was riding on the wrong side of the road and in the process, the lost control and hit an electric pole. The group was going to Ruhaama to attend the burial of the late Dr Anas Kaliisa the director of Salam charity and brother to NBS proprietor Kin Kaliisa.
Masaka regional traffic police commander ASP Godfrey Mwesigye has named the deceased as Badru Muhammad Katongole who was in the co-driver's seat, while the driver Uthman Matovu has also been admitted.
Mwesigye warned motorists against speeding, saying that a big number of accidents are happening in the region as a result of speeding. He says that the rainy season has started and the roads tend to be slippery during this time adding that the campaign time is also coming with a lot of excitement which makes people drive and ride carelessly.
Meanwhile, the Sembabule district vice chairperson Jude Kiganda is also nursing wounds at Bamu hospital in Sembabule after he was involved in an accident last night at Mateete trading centre. The vehicle which Kiganda was driving reportedly had got a mechanical problem at the time of the accident.
