Armed robbers shot dead two people at Juba hotel in Arua Park in Kampala Central Business district.Muhammad Abdullah, a South Sudanese national and Ibrahim Akit whose nationality is yet-to-be established were shot from their hotel room at about 4am on Wednesday morning. The gunmen reportedly stormed the hotel and shot the duo before making off an unspecified amount of money.
Traders in Arua Park chased after the armed men, beating them until police came to their rescue. Jackson Okanga, a trader in Arua Park told URN that they heard gunshots and then saw three men running out of the hotel - prompting them to run after them.
"The moment we got them, we put them together and started beating them. They had a gun but we were also many," Okanga said.
On arrival at the crime scene, officers from the Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala arrested the trio. The suspects have since been identified as Innocent Gumisiriza, a security guard with Top Security, Nelson Olibilunga, a resident of Seguku and employee of Saracen Security Company as well as Ronald Mulyera, a Burundian national.
The suspects were found in possession of a pistol registration number UG PSO T110206A011 belonging to Saracen which was assigned to Olibilunga. They were also found with a polythene bag which contained 29 rounds of ammunition for an AK-47 riffle and 48 bullets for a pistol.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said there is suspicion that there were more suspects who made away with the stolen money before the trio was captured.
