Security has blocked Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine's music concerts in the greater Masaka sub-region.
Bobi Wine was scheduled to stage five music concerts in Bukomansimbi and Sembabule district starting yesterday evening.
The concerts were scheduled to take place in Mateete and Sembabule town council in Sembabule and three stopover community engagements in Buyembe, Kigangazi and Bulenge in Bukomansimbi district in conjunction with the Woman MP Veronica Nanyondo.
According to Nanyondo, she invited the legislator to participate in some of her community engagements with her voters. She however, says she received a call from police on Wednesday morning threatening to disperse the engagements should Bobi Wine show up.
Nanyondo says police accused Bobi Wine of inciting residents, a claim she dismisses. Bobi Wine, now referred to by some commentators as the 'third force' in Uganda's politics after President Yoweri Museveni and opposition doyen Dr Kizza Besigye, last year sued government for blocking his music concerts. He demanded Shs 300 million in lost revenue. The case is still in court.
Godfrey Kayemba, a music promoter in Sembabule says he injected more than Shs 20 million to organize two shows in the area but he got a call from the resident district commissioner, Henry Baguma calling them off.
However Lameck Kigozi, the Greater Masaka regional deputy police commander denies blocking Bobi Wine's shows saying they were cleared by police. He asked for more time to consult with the respective RDCs to why they could have taken the decision to stop the concerts.
"Michael Banner Promotions got clearance from police headquarters to stage shows but we're getting some voices informally that the district security committee of Sembabule have blocked him [Bobi Wine] and we're waiting for that communication formally. If there are any reasons for blocking him we need to know because these shows were cleared by the police headquarters," said Kigozi.
Henry Baguma, the Sembabule resident district commissioner hasn't commented as he could neither pick nor return repeated calls from our reporter.
Bobi Wine had already arrived at Hotel Hollandia in Bukomansimbi town council with his backup singers but was asked to leave following the security directive. The artist who was dressed in a pair of black jean trousers, T-shirt and red cap drove off to Kampala.
