Police has warned Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine's supporters not to waste their time thronging Entebbe International Airport or lining the streets to welcome back the legislator.
Ahead of Bobi Wine's expected return to Uganda tomorrow, police says it has received intelligence that youths across the country are being mobilised to cause chaos and disrupt traffic flow as the hugely popular MP returns after 19 days in the US, where he'd gone for further treatment.
Bobi Wine flew out of the country to seek further treatment after being reportedly tortured by security operatives following his arrest on August 14 on allegations of stoning President Yoweri Museveni's motorcade.
Police, in a press statement issued today, said that Bobi Wine will not be allowed to hold any rallies, processions or assemblies because he has not sought for clearance as demanded by the Public Order Management Act (POMA) 2013. Only his immediate family members will be allowed at Entebbe airport to welcome him, police said.
However in response on his Twitter account, Bobi Wine said "police has no business telling me who receives me and who cannot or where I go and where I cannot. This impunity must stop now." He said police cannot restrict his movements because it's his natural right to move anywhere he wishes to.
He said he will be received by friends, colleague leaders & artistes.
"I will then go and see my sick grandmother briefly at Najjanankumbi from where I will head to Kamwokya for lunch with my family (brothers & sisters) before I go to my home in Magere."
But police spokesperson Emilian Kayima said on arrival, Bobi Wine will be availed security from the airport straight to his home in Magere. Parents and students, Kayima are concerned about the "unlawful" and unregulated expected procession. Police said it will be backed up by sister security agencies to ensure law and order.
