Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) on Tuesday designated Makindye East MP Ibrahim Kasozi as the new vice chairperson for the parliamentary committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase).
Cosase is one of the four accountability committees of parliament mandated to examine the audited accounts by the auditor general detailing the appropriation of government funds to different commissions, authorities and enterprises.
In a letter dated March 5 and signed by FDC secretary general Nathan Nandala Mafabi to Opposition Chief Whip Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, indicated that MP Kasozi is the new Cosase vice chairperson.
Last year, the party designated Rubaga North MP Moses Kasibante as cosase vice chairperson. Speaker of parliament who is in-charge of independents however re-designated Kasibante to the parliamentary committee on Appointments.
"As a party we have no say on placement of independents on committees. To avoid vacuum on the committee, we propose to replace Hon. Kasibante Moses with Hon. Kasozi as vice chairperson of Cosase," Mafabi indicated in a letter copied to party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi, leader of Opposition Betty Aol Ocan and MP Kasozi.
Now Ssemujju is expected to present Kasozi's name before parliament for approval before taking over the vice chairperson office, as per the parliamentary rules of procedure.
On February 25 as Cosase chairperson Mubarak Munyagwa assumed office, he demanded for a deputy to help him so that he could save time to attend to personal issues.
Munyagwa took over Cosase chairperson office from Bugweri MP Abdu Katuntu and if approved by parliament, Kasozi will replace Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among as committee vice chairperson.
