Private Sector Foundation boss Badagawa succumbs to COVID-19

The executive director of Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) Gideon Badagawa has died. Dr Elly Karuhanga, the PSFU board chair communicated Badagawa's death in a short statement issued this morning.  

"The Board, Management and Staff of the Private Sector Foundation of Uganda PSFU, with deep sorrow, regret to announce the untimely death of their executive director, Mr Gideon Badagawa, who passed away this morning Monday, June 21st, 2021, in Mulago Hospital," read a statement issued by Karuhanga.

According to the statement, Badagawa's wife Susan Birungi Badagawa has also been battling for her life alongside her husband in the hospital, a week after losing her father to COVID-19.  

"We pray for the family and the private sector during this hard time'' added Karuhanga in a statement," the statement said.   

Badagawa, 54, has led PSFU for the last 10 years. He previously worked with Uganda Manufacturers Association as executive director for 2 years. He was also a board member in the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Uganda Energy Credit Capitalization Company Limited, Uganda National Planning Authority (NPA), Board of Uganda Warehouse Receipts Authority (UWRA), and Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC).  

Born in Muyiira in Nambale sub-county, Iganga district, Badagawa went to school at Busoga College Mwiri, Makerere College School and later joined Makerere University in 1988 for his first degree in statistics.
