Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has closed Kisanjja section in Kalerwe market in Kampala for failing to abide by the government coronavirus preventive guidelines.
According to a statement issued Wednesday, the closure has been prompted by overcrowding in the market.
"The notice issued today has directed the vendors to cease operations effective 2nd April 2020," reads part of the statement.
In the 26 guidelines issued by President Yoweri Museveni so far, the government closed down its airport, closed schools and banned all public gatherings consisting of more than 5 people.

Public transport has also been banned while private vehicles must seek permission from the residence district commissioners for any emergency travel.
Food markets and supermarkets were left to operate so long as they adhere to the standard operating procedures. Among the guidelines is maintaining a 4-meter social distance in all directions between the buyer and the seller, and having handwashing facilities for everyone entering the market.
Also, the vendors are to stay in the market for 14 days without going back home to avoid infection exposure for their family members. KCCA says its leadership and the technical staff have frequently visited several city markets to check on compliance with market guidelines and found that Kasanja failed to comply hence the closure.
KCCA has asked the remaining section of Kalerwe market, the Orange section of Nakasero market, the fish section of Busega market, the section of Kasubi market near the Kawaala – Kasubi junction and Nakawa market to comply with the guidelines or risk closure.
