Uganda has registered a further 30 new coronavirus cases, rising the country's total caseload to 646.
The new cases have been confirmed from the 3,758 samples tested yesterday June 7. The new cases include 5 cross-border truckers, four of which arrived into the country from South Sudan via the Elegu border while the other arrived from Kenya via Busia point of entry.
The other cases included three security personnel from Luweero and four frontline health workers. Total of infected health workers now rises to 22.
18 alerts and contacts to previously confirmed cases including 4 from Amuru, 3 from Buikwe, 2 from Kyankawnzi, 2 from Arua, one from Buliisa, 1 from Wakiso, one from Wakiso and another from Kampala were registered.
According to the ministry of Health, 51 foreign nationals tested positive for coronavirus disease and were denied entry. These include 43 Kenyan, 4 Tanzanians, 3 Burundian and an Eritrean and were handed back to their respective countries.
Yesterday, at least 133 people died and 6,122 more new infections were recorded on the African continent. Once again, South Africa registered the continents highest new infections and deaths at 2,312 and 46 respectively. As of June 7, 998 people have died in South Africa while 48,285 have been infected and 24,364 discharged after recovering.
Egypt registered 1,467 new infections and 39 new deaths. In East and Central Africa region, 7 new deaths (total 27) and 86 new infections (total 2,020) were recorded in Ethiopia. In South Sudan, 323 new infections (total 1,317) and 4 new deaths (14) were recorded.
Kenya recorded one more death (total 84) and 167 new infections (total 2,767). In the Central African Republic (CAR) 64 more people got infected, rising the national total to 1634 cases.
In Rwanda, 8 more people got infected rising the national total to 439. In DR Congo 3 other patients (total 85) died and 138 new infections 9total 4,016) were registered.
Somalia recorded 45 new cases and one more death. Total deaths there now stand at 83 and 2,334 total infections. Djibouti recorded 38 new deaths and 2 more new deaths. In Madagascar, one more person died and 26 new cases recorded while Cape Verde recorded 12 new cases.
Meanwhile, Eritrea and Seychelles have no active cases at the moment after discharging all their positive cases. All Seychelle's 11 patients recovered and so did all Eritrea's 39 patients. In Angola, 3 more new cases were recorded, rising total infections to 91.
