Abataasoma demand for own ministry, 5 MP seats from Museveni

The Association of Uneducated Persons in Uganda (Abataasoma) has asked President Yoweri Museveni to give them a ministry that will work on and handle their issues. 

 

Addressing the press at their headquarters in Lubigi, Nansana municipality, Wakiso district, Abataasoma national chairman, Hajji Kasim Kasasa said that it is high time President Yoweri Museveni rewarded them for their continued support to his presidency since they have not directly benefited from his government. 

 

In addition, they also asked for special group parliamentary seats from the five regions of the country to represent them, and also reminded the president of his previous pledge where he promised to give them tractors for farming and a cash injection into their group. 

 

"We have been working for President Museveni for over 20 years but we have not benefited from his presidency, so we ask him to give us a ministry that will work on our issues related to uneducated persons," said Kasasa.

Kasasa says some people have so far successfully blocked them from meeting the president to tell him their problems. Amiri Ssengendo, a popular musician who is also a member of the Abataasoma says that he was with the president in the bush during the 80s but has not yet personally gained anything from Museveni's leadership.

Wakiso district Abataasoma chairperson, Sarah Nandujja says that they were advised to make Saccos but when they went to register their association Sacco, they were turned away after being told that it was full of politics.

Sylvester Isoka, the Wakiso district youth chairperson for the uneducated says that they have failed to access the Youth Livelihood Project (YLP) money.
