Rwanda on Friday recorded six new coronavirus cases, rising the country's tally to 17. The country reported its first case only last week.
According to the ministry of Health statement, the six new cases include a female French national, 30, whose domestic partner previously tested positive as well as their 10-month-old son.
Another confirmed case is that of a male Rwandan national aged 32 who arrived from Dubai on March 19 whose symptoms were detected at the airport upon screening.
A 26-year-old Swedish male who arrived in the country on March 3, tested positive after reporting symptoms on March 18. The other case is of a Rwandan male national aged 24 who arrived in the country on March 19 from India via Doha, Qatar also tested positive.
Another Rwandan national 32 described as a 'frequent traveller' also tested positive after showing symptoms on March 18. Rwanda's ministry says all the patients are under treatment and in stable condition.
Rwanda closed its airport to commercial passenger flights on March 20 midnight with only cargo and emergency flights allowed. Key symptoms of coronavirus include dry cough, shortness of breath and fever.
