People Power supporters clashed with elders in from Bukakabila village in Kitayundwa sub-county, Kamuli district during the burial of their colleague, Charles Mutyabule.
Mutyabule, 24, met his death in Mabira forest along the Kampala-Jinja highway on Saturday. He was part of a procession that was escorting People Power leader and Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine to Kampala after being hosted on radio talkshow in Jinja.
People Power activists claim that Mutyabule was knocked dead by a police patrol vehicle, an accusation that the police has dismissed. During the burial on Sunday, Naluswa Mutyabule, an elder in the area, condemned People Power for exhibiting political recklessness in their approach.
Mutyabule becomes the latest People Power supporter to be killed in controversial circumstances following the knocking dead of Rita Nabukenya allegedly by a police patrol vehicle while en route to Bobi Wine's court session in February this year.
While on their return journey from the burial of Nabukenya, another People Power supporter Dan Kyeyune died ithin a space of two days after being shot in the head allegedly by Local Defense Unit personnel in Nansana following a traffic standoff. Police registered the incident as 'murder by shooting' whose motive was not yet established.
Another People Power diehard and artiste Ssewankambo Hannington, commonly known as Sweet Pepsi was beaten to his death by security officers during the 'Free Bobi Wine' protests last year while Lukoma Stephen Ssalongo was allegedly shot dead by security officers on June 7, 2019 in Buvuma district.
Another Bobi Wine supporter, Michael Kalinda a Ziggy Wyne was kidnapped before succumbing to torture injuries on August 4, 2019. Police later said he died from injuries sustained after a motorcycle accident.
Hakim Ssekamwa died on August 7, 2019 after he was knocked dead by a police patrol car registration number UP 2525 during a procession to escort Bobi Wine in Bombo town along the Kampala Gulu highway where the legislator together with others were on their way to Kampala from Gulu where they are being tried in the Magistrate's court for among others treason, inciting violence and disobedience of lawful orders.
Earlier Bobi Wine's driver, Yasin Kawuma was allegedly shot dead by presidential guards in Arua after President Museveni's convoy was allegedly stoned by People Power supporters during a parliamentary seat by-election. During the Bugiri by-election last year, at least two youth were shot dead allegedly by police during Bobi Wine's procession to Asuman Basalirwa's campaign rally.
Naluswa said that any successful commander should be able to ensure the safety of his subjects during the battle because the rampant deaths will weaken his force ahead of the final assault. Naluswa further accused People Power supporters of orchestrating long-distance processions which have caused the death of their colleagues.
But the angry supporters attacked him until he was forced to flee from the funeral. Former minister, Asuman Kiyingi attempted to calm the situation by asking them to seek redress in courts of law. But the supporters accused him of judging their mode of operation while demanding for change and ordered him to sit down.

Joel Ssenyonyi, the People Power spokesperson argued that Ugandans have a right to freely demand change through peaceful means like organized processions and they shouldn't be reprimanded over the same.
Ssenyonyi said the youth today have opted to show love and support to Bobi Wine instead taking the 1980 violent approach of President Yoweri Museveni of going to the bush for a 5-year guerilla war to fight the sitting government of then President Milton Obote which led to death of thousands of people.

Ssenyonyi further said People Power is not to blame for the deliberate murder of their supporters by the regime because they are always killed for just expressing their love to Bobi Wine. The deceased is survived by a five months' pregnant wife, Mwajuma Mutesi.
