Amuriat arrested in Nakasangola by DPC Namara

Opposition Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat has been arrested in Nakasongola.

Amuriat was arrested after he allegedly defied police directives not to campaign in Kazwama town council. Amuriat first addressed three rallies at Migyera town, Buruuli Quarter Zone and Nakasongola RC primary school in Nakasongola town council. Here, Amuriat condemned the brutality against fishermen and denial of access to the lake of those who can't buy boats.

He then set off to Kazwama to campaign among fishermen who are bitter after they were denied access over new restrictions on fishing.

Several residents are crying foul after they were de-registered in a bid to decongest the lake and fight off illegal fishing. However, Amuriat's car was blocked by policemen and Uganda People's Defense Forces soldiers commanded by district police commander Patience Namara.

Namara said that Amuriat had no business campaigning in the area and directed him to proceed to other campaign venues located along the Kampala-Gulu highway. Amuriat disembarked from his car and attempted to walk but he was stopped before he decided to sit in the middle of the road in protest.

Policemen bundled him into the police van and drove him to Nakaseke district. Police also brutally arrested Lydia Nalujja the FDC Nakasongola Woman MP candidate.
