The effects of last month's deadly riots arising from the arrest of presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, continue to spiral with Chinese technology company, Huawei accused of aiding state agents to track down protesters.
More than 70 people died in the two-day riots of November 18-19 and since then, more than 1,000 people have been arrested after tracking them using Huawei's facial recognition technology.
A few years ago, government hired Huawei to map all cities and municipalities in the country with street cameras in a deal worth $126m (Shs 424 billion).
The Observer could not reach out to Huawei top management but an official who preferred anonymity said that Huawei's work stopped at installing the technology and denied any involvement of its staff to help track down protesters.
"Our job was to supply government with the technology and have no part in the on-going crackdown of people," said the source.
